daft question was created by rayb

this might be a daft question. but i currently have 15inch wheels on my mgf and was toying with the idea of fitting the 16inch 11 spoke wheels of a mgf, will it be just a straight swap or will i need to change the hubs.
the reason i asked i tried a freinds 11 spoke wheel of a mgzs and it would not fit the hubs. i would of thought it would of been a straight swap mgzs to mgf or tf

I belive its a straight swap, Saving up for some 11 spokes myself. The ZS must have a different PCD than the MGF or your friend has been playing with his hubs

Here's a good link http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/suspension/wheel_options_for_the_mgf.htm

thanks for the info psymon. my mate bought his mgzs straight from the factory and has kept it in original condition since. it would of been nice for a straight swop on wheels from the mgzr,zs,zts range

the ZR/ZS is 100mm PCD, the F/TF is 95.25mm PCD

as pete says, the MGF/TF are weird when it comes to PCD and very few wheels will fit straight on from other cars. Also you need to remember and adjust tyre sizes to account for the larger wheel

The MGF PDC is not 95.25mm, it is 3 1/2 inches which was a very common PDC on older British cars going back through maestros and montegos (I had VVC 5 spokes on mine) through Truimph dolomites (sold some maestro cross spoke alloys to an owner) and before.

I thought it was 3 3/4"? Which is 95.25mm.

That is the reason that so few of them get nicked, wont fit other cars :omg: :omg:

Possibly, either way it is imperial and not metric.

it can be either, as long as the base imperial value is correct and the metric conversion is correct ;) so thats 3.75" x 25.4 = 95.25mm, besides, you wouldn't get very far in the UK asking for rims with a 3 3/4" PCD, the spotty oick would look at you gone out

So true but why are rims measured in inches? :-?

Basically tyre size measurments are the most messed up of all: a metric measurement, a percentage of the metric measurement, and imperial measurement. Someone needs to sort this out - it took ages for my poor old head to get around that.

I wonder what the 'spotty oick' thinks the imperial measurment for the rim is?

That is good old British intransigence.
Viz. OK we have to go metric, but we're going to still use lots of imperial measurements as well, just to confuse the foreigners.

That's why we buy fuel in litres, but still work out fuel consumption in mpg.
Buy beer in pints, but buy milk in litres.
Measure our weight in stones and pounds, but buy stuff in kilos.
Measure temperature above freezing in Fahrenheit, but below we use celsius.
