seems to be speed related, louder at slower speeds... no idea whats causing it...
doesnt seem to be any play in the wheel, could the bareings be failing?

doesnt seem to be the brakes...

I had the same at the back. With careful listening it did seem to be brake related - turned out to be a warped disc so as the speed increased so the frequency of the sound increased. Can't hear it at higher speeds because other sounds drowned it out!

I would jack up the front and spin the wheel. That might help you isolate the cause. Check the disc for runout. Take the pads out and spin again.

Squealing is not normally bearing related but not impossible. :-?

I had exactly the same problem. After greaseing everything, checking bearing etc, it was just (I say just) that the wheel locking nut was not tight enough. It appeared to be ok with a spanner, but after removal and retightening the noise disappeared.

Best of luck

That's an interesting one John. :yesnod: Was it just the lock nut or were the other ones loose?

After my locknut farce, I bought a torque wrench to aid fitting the wheel nuts. :yesnod:

Sorry david, I did not make myself clear. I meant the hub nut. The locking tab was holding the nut in place and it did not seem loose, and it was showing no play on the wheel but after removing it and re-tightening the nut and refixing the locking tab, the noise dissapeared.
Tried to add a photo but struggling.

Ah, got you. :yesnod:

On photo adding, you can either add it as an attachment direct from your computer.
Click on add file button in Attachments.
Browse for file and click on it, so it appears in the window.
Then press insert button.

Or you can upload your pictures to a hosting website eg www.tinypics.com
Then copy and paste the [IMG] link into your post.

You should really use a new nut and spike the flange into the groove in the stub axle. the torque for those hub nuts is 150 lbs/ft and you really need a torque wrench to make sure it is correct. i would not expect a wheel bearing to squeak unless it is dry of grease. are you sure there is no play at all in the bearings/hub, because the bearing assembly can turn in the hub? Have you checked the discs for run out? are the two small countersunk retaining screws that hold the disc in place, still there? :omg:
