never ever let someone tighten them with an air compressor!! had new toyos fitted and went to pick up the car from the tyre fitter and then to the mechanic to fit the bilsteins and discs, got a call from the mechanic that he can't rmeove the wheel nuts!! he ruined 2 sockets , twisted a wrench and ruined 4 wheel nuts! the worst part was when a socket got stuck on a wheel nut!! the wheel nuts are very very poor quality they have like a nut cover which isn't strong enought and it breaks off the nut!

are there any better quality wheel nuts around?

FM

I am afraid it is well known in F & TF circles that the OEM wheel nuts are made of butter!

Like the rest of the fasteners!
God knows where Rover sourced them, recycled no doubt from old Spam tins.

If any of you remember my fight with the locking wheel nut , I replaced all the nuts with these
16 x ALLOY WHEEL NUTS MGF MGTF MG TF MGZR ZR MGZS [A1]
Completed

I'm very happy with them, they look good and are solid metal so no crappy loose chromed covers!

When I replaced the oem nuts I found that at least half the chrome cappings were loose on the inner steel nuts. (If you can get the covering off, the steel nut is one size smaller(16mm, if I remember correctly).

Our MGF has had the security nuts replaced with nuts which require a 21mm socket. It looks like it's missing a nut on each wheel unless you look closely.
