Instrument bulbs
As most of the interior is in pieces I thought I might brighten up some of the instruments.
I believe that the bulbs for the heater and instruments (speedo etc) are T5 286. I just need confirmation and need to know how many I need to replace the bulbs in both units - I think it's 2 in each.
My car is a Mk1 MGF
Thanks.

I am in the same position as you. My interior is in bits. I understand that most of the bulbs are T5 286 so I ordered a 10 pack of LEDs off E-Bay. There is one oddball, the clock uses a BA7S which I ordered singly from Ace parts, also off E-bay.

There are 2 T5s in the heater light box and 2 in the speedo illumination box.
Clive has a bulb list in the a-z of how tos.
You can change the leds in the switches too, 3mm 12v leds. The Mk1 has soldered leds in the window switches, and little bayonet holders in the rest of the switches, I think.
The mk2 has soldered 12v leds in all the switches.

I tried red leds in the instruments but I wasn't too happy with the result. I had removed the yellow filter too, but because of the different point of light source from the incandescent oem bulbs, it just didn't look right. I put the yellow filter back on the lightbox and that helped, but in the end I got the Plasma dials!
The yellow filter is also a mask to stop the lights shining directly on the dials.
