Speakers
As I am going to be putting in some Mk 2 doorcards I thought it may be a good time to look at upgrading my speakers As usual, this is something I have almost no knowledge about, although I have done as much as I can online to gain some understanding.
I know the rears are 4"x6" but I don't have a lot of depth due to the crossmember for the roll hoops (the OEM speakers just fit) so I need something that isn't any deeper than those. I believe getting coaxial speakers is preferable.
I think the fronts are 6.5" and I am unsure if there are restrictions to the depth.
So can anyone suggest decent replacements that won't break the bank please? I know it can be a matter of personal preference but there is no substitute for experience so please suggest away
I also need to wire the tweeters and believe I need to use a crossover for each to seperate the frequencies to the 2 door speakers. I think that the original door speaker wires go into this and it splits into outputs for the 2 individual speakers, is that correct and does anyone have any advice regarding what to use?

Not my area of expertise, but I believe, with the hoops fitted the only way to get bigger/better rear speakers is to mount them to the face of the T bar, rather than behind.
The fronts are easier, as there is no space restriction, but you'll need to re-use the water shield from the OEM speakers(or create new ones 'Blue Peter' style).
As to crossovers and the like...
I know Clive's updated his speakers, might be worth a PM.

The standard tweeters just use a resistor to restrict lower tones. The O/E speakers are resonable so unless you are an audiofile (in which case you'd properly know about these things anyway) I wouldn't bother changing them unless you need to.
Do the new door cards have the tweeters installed? If so have alook to see if they have the resistor. If you start fitting crossovers you will either need to mount them in the doors (not good as they'll get damp) or run extra cables into the doors.

laz 6 mths ago i fitted a kenwood KDC-6047U with fli triaxal speakers at the front and In Phase XTC640 6 x 4 inch 160W 2-way coaxial speakers 15 x 10 cm in the rear with a amp to give it some depth. i also fitted some infinity tweeters to the doors . i originaly wanted to fit the rear speaker brkts but decided the standard speakers were not up to scratch so i cut the excisting t bar cover to fit and there is no gap around the speaker cover, i drew round the rear speaker on the t bar then used a dremel to cut round it .with the door tweeters i did the same and fiited the crossovers into the door cards.

That looks very nice but I'm not sure I'm that good with a Dremel :nonod:
