I'll be interested to see any pics of the conversion, and impressions of ride quality after it's done. :yesnod:

hi we will photo the suspension and we do need to ask for owners permission before we show there cars on line, but we are expecting a pig of a job and it will not be as easy as it says on the box.believe it or not it would be cheaper to fit tf suspension, and its an easy swap,we have done three cars.

WE SIMPLY REMOVE OUR SUBFRAMES AND REPLACE WITH TF SUBFRAMES.THE LABOUR IS £400 AND IT DEPENDS ON THE COST OF SECOND HAND TF SUBFRAMES,BUT THERE ARE PAINTED SO THEY ARE RUST FREE,THE AVERAGE COST FOR THE WHOLE JOB IS £900,AND YOU CAN THEN SELL YOUR OLD SUB FRAMES ON EBAY.BUT AS WITH A LOT OF THESE JOBS YOU GET WHILE THE CAR IS IN BITS CAN YOU!!!!!
YOU MAY AS WELL DO THE CLUTCH AND MAY AS WELL CHECK THE SUSPENSION BUSHES AND BRAKES.
TF SUSPENSION WAS FACTORY TESTED AND BEEN ON THE ROAD FOE YEARS SO WELL PROVEN.SUPLEX SUSPENSION IS WELL UN KNOWN.THE TF SUSPENSION WAS SIMPLY ADDED TO THE SUBFRAME.A FEW BRACKETS AND YOUR THERE.UNLESS THE SUPLEX BECOMES MUCH CHEAPER I CANT SEE IT BEING A MAJOR PLAYER.AND TO BE HONEST SEEING THEM IN THE BOX AND HOW SMALL THERE ARE IM NOT IMPRESSED.
MGFS ARE LIKE A KIT CAR,YOU CAN CHANGE THE PISTONS AND LINERS,CHANGE VVC TO NON VVC,CHANGE THE SEATS,DASH BOARD,HOODS,AND THE SUBFRAMES,AND EVEN BOLT ON THE TF BODY WORK ON TO AN F.YOU CAN TURN A 1996 MGF IN TO A 2005 160 IN A WEEK END EASY OR THE OTHER WAY ROUND.
SO ANY ONE WITH A PUMP UP SUSPENSION,GET FRONT AND REAR SUB FRAME FROM SOME LIKE MARTIN SMITH.COMPLETE WITH SUSPENSION AND DRIVESHALFS.AND JUST SWAP THEM OVER.

Can't comment on the Surplex Kit but I've got the Australian Kit which is very similar. Have put a few km on it now over some country roads which frankly you guys in the UK and Europe would never see. Belgium Pave is nothing on this....

Over all I am very happy with the conversion. Handling is excellent and damping and ride comfort is also very good. Yes its a little different to a hydra-gas F, but frankly I'd say its an improvement. My car is running Bilstein Dampers as unlike the Surplex Kit you are not forced to use their shocks. The Australian kit has some adjustment for ride height which is very handy. There is very little pitching front to rear. I was expecting a bit without the interconnectivity of the hydra-gas spheres, but if anything I'd say there is no more, and probably less than there is in the TF. The system is dead easy to fit and would expect labour cost to be WAY down on changing sub-frames etc to go full TF set up.

Daz, I realise that hydragas spheres are no longer available new, but wondered how much to change for second hand ones? Just to give me and other F owners a comparison. It looks like Suplex would be about 1500 fitted, you suggest about 900 for a TF conversion, so how much for sphere changes? I guess spheres are not a long term fix, but they may be more viable for most people in the short term...

That is a very good price  i read an article last year in one of the MG Mags, either Enjoying MG or MG Enthusiast and the subframe swap and suspension conversion from F to TF cost £5000 (yes five grand) your price blows the suplex out of the water :broon: :broon:
I must admit the Aus kit looks the Dogs B******s and like the fact that you can use Blistein shocks :woohoo:
