Hoovering the Engine
Decided today to change plugs as the engine has been misbehaving of late. All was well until the last plug. I pulled the cap off and inserted plug socket only to find it wouldn't engage on the plug. I looked down the hole only to see several bits of plastic accumulated at the bottom. Looked at plug cap and saw that a chunk of plastic had broken off.
I managed to get the biggest bit out by dragging it up the side of the hole with a flat blade screwdriver. The small bits though were causing a problem. I tried a couple of skewers using them like chopsticks ..... I tried blutak on the end of a screwdriver but no luck. After searching the house for something which I could get down the hole to get the blighters out I suddenly thought hoover ...... if I could get the end of the pipe to seal over the hole it might just suck the bits up, no such luck, so I made an attachment with a straw and some insulation tape. Worked a treat.
Here is pic of offending items ... the bigger bits anyway, the rest is in the hoover:
and also a pic of the 'Acme Plastic Bits Removal Tool' Patents Pending. (I think all hoovers should come with such a tool, Could be useful for retrieval of all sorts of hard to get bits).

I've got a really useful tool for situations like this, a long reach 3 pronged clasp I got at the ideal home exhibition 20 odd years ago for £1.
Home to black Alfa Romeo 159 3.2 V6 Q4 ,green MGF VVC and red MG Maestro T16.
