A local tire company has been advertising Hakkapelitta winter tires in MGF/TF suitable profiles.
We used Hakkas on the rally car years ago and they were superb tires!
Made in Finland where they know a lot about snow!

We've now ordered winter tyres for my wife's X-Type. It feels crazy to do it when it's 25 oC and sunny but we're off to Wales on holiday next month and the law of sod would dump a load of early snow while we're still on Pirelli's finest ice skates. The surprising thing is how much cheaper the winter tyres will be. The 16" wheels we bought to stick the winter tyres on will pay for themselves with the difference between 16" and 18" tyres.
We did look at the new Bridgestone all weather tyres but in the end we've gone with full winters.
Edit: The distinction seems to be between all weather/season aka Mud and Snow tyres and full winter tyres. We're going with Michelin Alpin A4s which have some good reviews. They'll be going on next month and staying until March - even with us living in the tropical South

Back with front wheel drive and 181HP at the wheels

as david said i ran with M&S tyres last winter on the rear and the difference was amazing :woohoo: ......... whereas the GSD2's were struggling for grip on the slightest incline the Michelin Aplin mud and snow tyres let me go pretty much anywhere i wanted, even to the stage i was starting to look for ever challenging drifts and hills
BUT BUT BUT..............please fit them to all 4 corners.. yes i could drive anywhere but i couldnt STOP!!!!!!! as soon as i touched the brakes the front end just wanted to go straight on :silly:
so this year Maggy and i will probably be sharing a set of 15" and 16" wheels between the 2 cars ( 15" on rear and 16" over the APs)
the tyres i used were part worn ones and at £20 a corner fitted they were worth every penny :broon:
and my 'accident' was purely down to the dozy driver and not the weather/road conditions
