OK system is all working but not fully installed. :woohoo:

However I have a couple of questions, which I think Clive will be answering ;)

What is the latest generationof map discs?

I connected my son's ipod nano which, according to what I have read, should not have worked but it was fine apart from the ipod displaying a charging not compatable with adaptor message.

When using the ipod is using the highest bitrate reccommended.

Just have to secure all the units and job done. :yesnod:

I think the latest discs are CNDV-100MT

Less scrupulous people might search for them on e-bay.

Thanks Clive - I have the latest West disc - this came with the unit.

What about the ipod compatability? :-?

Also, is it ok to use the permanent live feed for the power to the ipod adapter and bluetooth unit? This was how the wiring came to me and there's a 2amp fuse in the power lead for those, so I figure that the load sould be safe but wanted to make sure.

I have the installation manual :yesnod:

I had downloading manuals for the units but didn't have the software manual for some reason, so thanks for that

Was it ok to take the permanent live for the ipod and bluetooth adapters from the yellow ISO wire?

Am I correct that any 'classic' ipod up to 4G will charge ok via firewire but subsequent models would need a Scosche IFWA ipod carging adapter to charge.

Also, what's everyone's opinion on how much better the sound quality is using 'lossless' files?

We both have iPod Nano's. Mine is only 1Gb, Clive's is 8Gb and they both charge and operate correctly with the unit.

Sorry about that. Here's a couple of things I have learnt that may be of interest to other members who wish to use either ipod or bluetooth in their cars (hopefully in English).

1. Not all ipods are the same:

Up until 2007 ipod charging was via the connector using 'firewire' and after that date via 'USB'.

What this means is that the pin on the connecter to the ipod that carries the current to charge it was moved. The Pioneer ipod adapter is set up for the old 'firewire' set up.

You can still use a newer ipod but it won't be charged by the adapter, which means taking it out of the car to charge. However, you can get one of these to fix the problem:

Scosche IFWA charging adapter

2. Not all bluetooth devices are the same!

I thought this was an industry standard for data transfer to ensure that all 'bluetooth' devices, whatever the make, could 'talk' to each other. Having trawled around various forums full of complaints regarding connecting phones to 'in car' kit I now know this isn't totally true.

I can connect my phone to my bluetooth adapter and the handsfree function works fine. However when I try and download the phone book to the adapter the phone immediatly disconnects :(

This appears to be a fairly common problem with many phones and is because that particular 'profile' is not present on the phone - how bl**dy stupd is that

Basically 'bluetooth' is a collection of different processes (profiles) that perform different functions and are used across all devices but not all of these are present on all devices.

Phone Book Access (PBA) or Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP) is a profile that allows exchange of Phone Book Objects between devices. It is likely to be used between a car kit and a mobile phone to:

allow the car kit to display the name of the incoming caller;
allow the car kit to download the phone book so the user can initiate a call from the car display.

It appears that the Nokia X3 does not have this profile, even though the Nokia website states that it does, so I don't see who is calling me and I can't download the phonebook to my adapter. It's not the end of the world but it is VERY irritating.

So I am now on the lookout for an acceptable replacement for my cr*p phone that will allow me to use all the features of the bluetooth kit.

This brings rise to a question (as always):

Has anyone got bluetooth in their car and are able to download the phonebook? If so then what phone are you using please?
