harsh ride
Having different tyres around the wheels can be quite dangerous on a TF with 16" wheels and will almost definitely give you very unsettling or vague handling.
Your tyre pressures won't help either. It should be 36 at the rear and 26 at the front. Also check that you have 195/45/16s at the front and 215/40/16s on the back and make sure that if they are directional that they are on the correct way round.
Basically, tyre wise, you are breaking most of the TF rules. Different tyres/wrong tyre pressures and cheap makes will effect the TFs handling. Fitting the car with a full set of Toyos for example should transform the car. I recently bought 2 rear Toyos for less than £60 each from www.blackcircles.com
As for the shocks, I found the standard suspension on the TF to be ok and only changed to Spax when I was getting a knocking at the front which turned out to be the shocker lower bush.
I too was pretty disappointed with the Spax setup. I suppose I was expecting a transformation, but I spent weeks playing with the settings just to get it close to what it was originally.
My main problem at the minute is that my front end is higher than the back end after fitting the new setup, so I think I will be going back to standard springs to see if that helps.

When I fitted my Spax dampers I carried on using the OEM springs.
The ride height has not altered and now after some experimentation I have the ride noticeably better and the handling about the same - although it's all very subjective trying to remember exactly how the car handled on the OEM dampers.
I can easily recall the very hard ride though.

I quite like the hard ride to be honest, it reminds me of what I am driving.
I never actually considered it to be overly hard, but then I expected it to be firm (fnar fnar)
