Damp Backside

Yesterday we had our first heavy rain of the season. My MGF was parked in the lot at work for the day, and when I get home I realised that I had a rather wet, ahem, bottom. As I wasn't feeling incontinent I assumed that the wind must have blown some rain past the softtop seal and got the seat wet. We were going out in the evening so I put an old nylon vest on the seat to prevent the damp seat from embarrasing me (Look at that silly fool, he's pissed himself! ) and the evening went well.
This morning I went out to find this :pinch: .....

Seems it's coming in at the intersection of the top, windshield frame and the window. The window is nice and snug (new window stop last week), and the top is a MK2 type with the extra bit on the corner. Any tips on how to preserve my dignity?

Could you post a photo of the window top/seal and window front/seal/cheater area. If I see how the glass is meeting the seal, I can make suggestions. (possibly even sensible ones. :P )

David,
Thanks for suggesting I take pictures of the leak area. Sometimes the lens point out things that the eye misses.
I think for now I will add a bit of closed cell foam in the corner and see if that does the trick. I have a hardtop coming in the next month or so and will do a proper window adjustment then.
Cheers, Rich

:yesnod: Yes, Rich for goodness sake, please vacuum, dust and then use a good quality interior valet product on your car before taking photo's to put on the world wide web :broon:,

You'll give MG owners a bad name, call yourself the Canadian rep of the Register, they'll revoke it if this is your standard of presentation

Another suggestion would be to check the cantrail wires (no.10 below). The hood looks quite 'loose' at the side where it sits above the door rubber that meets the top of the glass.... I changed Megs and the hood is much tighter now at that point! Water 'blows' in otherwise, and then as it is on top of the rubber it drips a lot further inside than if it just ran down the door.

They are easy enough to change - you need to pry up the front corner of the hood material and you can see the little tag that holds them. There is a small locking bolt that it passes through at the rear. If it is broken I can guarantee you will need to 'clear out' the channel it runs through as it tends to rust away into little bits!

That's interesting. These hoods a a different kettle of fish than the old MGB hoods aren't they?

Must be the Pininfarina involvement.
