Hardtop time...

Hardtop time... was created by Tsleight

Well, as its dry and the time is changing next weekend, I thought I'd fit the hardtop. Car gets used most days by wife for commuting and she wanted it on for colder weather. Took it for a test drive to check fitting. Wow! So much quieter and very very easy to go above the speed limit! :P

I didn't want one when I bought the car. Still don't. But I can see the need, for some, and the attraction, as it's a very nice looking piece of kit. :broon:

I'm likely to need a glass screen next year though. As I abuse the placky one big time throwing it up and down like a yoyo.

Yeah, I was going to add that since we fitted the glass rear screen, I feel that's the best of both worlds. :yesnod:

What are you talking about David, you should store it in your spare bedroom or the conservatory like 95% of the other MGF/TF owners

Mine is in the garden shed, but to be honest, unless it is very severe weather, that is where it is going to stay. Never did get around to painting it to match the car and since I intend to use it so little I don't think I'll bother.

If you are looking at fitting one for the duration of the winter why not do what I did last year and remove the soft top completely. That way you have a more spacious feel to the interior and you're not carrying around all that dead weight.

I need to take a better picture, but I DO like the look of the hardtop... (Couldn't fit it all in with camera phone on drive)

Note the "lighter" colour paint on the sill/side intake area - Halfords paint!!!

Looking very smart indeed, hardtop in body colour looks good too, that halfords paint is rubbish (as you have found out   ) always better to use some made up by the local body paint shop (like Rayb got) or from Sussex Classic Car parts or MGOC  Photo is good from your phone

Could never understand why anyone would want a hardtop.....then when the F was off-road for a year I ended up buying one for the hell fo it and it stayed 120 miles away for 9 months until I got the new car. Then I fitted it and it transforms the look of the car (see with and without pics below). I prefer the look of the car with the hardtop, and I have mastered the knack of removing it and fitting it myself in about a minute or so, so its not a problem to have it on. After last 4 or 5 winters its necessary to stop the roof getting stretched with all the snow we get for 4-5 months.

Dont get me wrong I prefer the car without it, but I do like the look of the colour coded HT and it does make the winter more bearable..especially the heated window

Trouble is I can only paint it outside, so the good paint will have to wait until the return of hot, dry weather (!!!!). Maybe that will be the irst week of October 2012...
