Mark 1 F ignition barrel wiring for starter button

Mark 1 F ignition barrel wiring for starter button was created by Tourbillon

Guys

I am trying to fit a starter button and thought it would be an easy task since there are a number of "How To" out there. challenge is that Mk1 wiring appears to be colour differently so its a nightmare to work out which is going to the starter solenoid, worse ist that the is a connector about 25cm from the barrel and it looks like the wiring colour changes after this...

Any pictures or guides on the wiring or if you have fitted to a MK1 F a starter button i would appreciate. FYI i have the physical fit of the button in the dash next to the Dimmer for the dash lights so all the wiring runs are short.

Help will be along very soon I'm sure :broon:

I like the button in that position, I think it's better than in place of the cigar lighter. Only problem is on a MK2, that is where the adjuster is for the electric door mirrors is located. :nonod:

David, this helps. I assume i connect my relay across the black/yellow and White/red. Also I assume that the Black Yellow will be a good feed for the LED back light as it should only light when starting the car.

where is the diagram from? as I could do with looking at the whole schematic

i am in the same position with my MK1 F. I have my starter button physically installed and need to do the wiring.
Unfortunately the instructions that came with the kit are all in Japanese....even the wire colours are marked with Japanese characters! I spent some time under the dash with a test light, and some time searching the net where there are several how-to's for various cars. One thing that you have to decide is if you want a simple relay operating the starter or a more complex circuit which will shut off devices not needed when the starter is running, much like the factory ignition switch. I have now got a copy of the MGF Electrical Manual but haven't had the chance to spend any time figuring out the best solution.
The button does look good though. :yesnod:
I have even toyed with the idea of just hooking it up to a buzzer for passengers who say "What's this button for?" and then push it  .

Rich

This is the kit I have, same as in the post http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=428115

Instructions are generic and unfortunately I have a different model so my wires have a different colour, if i solve the problem i will make a " How to" for Mk1 cars.

if not I think a buzzer or ejector seat is an excellent plan!

If I come up with any useful info I will post it as well.
I like your dash mount, it's well out of the way. I have installed
power mirrors in my car so that space is already filled.
Here is my button set up. I found the ashtray/power point conversion on
one of the forums. It took a lot of modding to the power point and ashtray
but it works very well and makes use of the ashtray which I don't use.

I like that Rich. I don't suppose there's a 'how to' or a link for it is there please?

The button will glow blue but the blue you see in the picture is from the LED mirror lamps.

I will see if I can hunt down the how-to on the power point. It's really quite simple, wired into the existing lighter wiring.
The power points are available on E-bay for a couple of quid and come as 3-socket units. You just hacksaw off the third socket. I used a piece from a CD case and super-glued it on as a new end cap. The ashtray and the power point case need quite a bit of fettling to make it fit but it is a good project for a winter evening
