I use this on the seals of the car. It seems to keep them in good condition.

In the A to Z of How To you will find this excellent guide on adjusting the windows to get a good fit if you find you don't have one

Good Thread!
I have a hardtop coming for my Mark1 F. It is from a Japanese car and unlikely to have had any updating since new.
What is the purpose of the hardtop spacers (I understand that you need 2 per car?) I have heard that they are a very good addition
but really know nothing about them.

Rich the spacers are there to stop the rear seal from just being crushed down by the hardtop, it also keeps the hardtop from rubbing on the bodywork. You have one at each side under the B pillar.

You will be surprised at how different the MGF feels with a hardtop fitted

I'm looking forward to it. We don't get much snow here but our winters are very wet and my car sits outside all day at work so the hardtop will be a good weapon against the dampness.
The hardtop I am getting must be one of the most travelled in the world. It went to Japan when new. A friend in Eastern Canada has bought the car which is now in the process of being shipped to him via the Panama canal. When it arrives he will be shipping the hardtop back across North America to me. Quite the process!

Summer time down here, so the hardtop is on. Sun way too hot and fierce in the sub-tropics, unless you like getting sun cancers cut out! The hardtop turns the F into a lovely enclosed coupe and a very comfortable motorway cruiser as the wind noise is much reduced. Also allows the air-con (which is pretty good with the soft top up) to be ultra effective. Like a 100mph refrigerator...

I've not come across the plates mentioned above before. My car does not have them. I do now know that its important to have the mounting clips adjusted so that they are very tight. Else with the rattling will drive you nuts.

Yes Murray the clips do need adjusting. Those spacers are more important if your seal on the underside at the back is worn down.

Did you keep the soft top on or remove it?

Bought an early MGF hartop recently and instead of a rubber seal along the back edge, it has a piece of rectangular foam.It is a genuine MG hardtop. Has anyone seen one like this before?

Yes

Oh I see, I would buy a new rubber seal as shown in the first post on page 1.

The foam compress to easily and can make the hard top rub on the body causing damage, normally at the sides.
