Boot warning light dashboard
My boot warning light is on permanently even though my boot is shut properly. I wondered if anyone knows if there is a way I can turn it off as the bright red light on the dash is annoying when driving!
Thanks

I'' have a look round there. Luckily it's the only issue I have on the car touch wood.
If that doesn't work I'll either live with it or I'll get a quote from an auto electrician to fix it for me. I'd rather not remove the bulb from the dash, and I know from past experience how fiddly it can be removing instrument clusters on cars!
Cheers

David will tell you how easy it is to remove the instrument cluster to replace/change bulbs. I dont know if the bulb removal will affect the next MoT, with the new rules coming into force on 01.01.2012 (see my recent thread on MoT changes)
I would check the wiring first, this is a very common problem, with breaks in the wiring at the boot hinge. I had a simmilar problem with a Hoitpoint fridge/freezer recently  the control panel on the door went on when the door was open and off when it was closed!!! found two broken wires in the insulated harness, repaired them, saved £25 for a new harness, now works perfectly. please let us know how you get on.

You don't want a warning light distracting you when you've got a bonnet covering the windscreen :silly:

Posted 12 years 11 months ago #32992The bulb lighting when the boot is shut suggests that there is a broken wire some where, proberbly several, which may eventually lead to a fire.
However if you are set on removing the bulb the clocks come out quite easily, only 4 screws IIRC. You wont fail the MOT if the bulb is lit or if it doesn't light.

Amazingly the light went out, and it comes on again when the boot is actually open (basically working as it should do) So it took me a few seconds to fix it!
Then it was time to fix my faulty zip on my roof (with the help of an MGF Zip kit from Ebay). I fixed this in 5 minutes!
It's nice to have no problems at all now with the car (oh, other than the clock which stopped working - that's my next job!)

I wonder if a more reliable clock from another car would fit in its place....?
