Thought i would start a new thread about overheating engines in an MGF ~ an Epsom club member bought a 1998 MGF (very cheaply) with HGF! or so he thought!!!! bought all of the parts to do it himself and whilst waiting for them to arrive, did some checking, could not understand why car would start and run well, no oil/water mix either, but it just got hotter and hotter when driving, replaced the front fan fuse (which had blown) but then found that the engine bay sensor (AAT) had failed and replaced this too. all ok then  Head gasket not done, and sold for three times what he paid for it.

Could to tack something onto the end please, i recall that you have a picture of the position of the AAT sensor on the panel above the inlet manifold, and the description for testing if faulty i.e. disconnect and bridge terminals and fan (In duct) should run!! Thank you.

The blown fuse buzzer idea is an absolutely great idea, Deiter shoul get two gold awards for that

I've added a bit about the ATT and engine bay fan to the How to. :yesnod:

Err, I'm not please about relations with the AAT and rear fan & engine *overheating*.

In my oppion that fan is only for cooling down the fuel lines. Nothing proves relations of the rear fan to significant engine temperature droping. Also from physical point of view it is impossible to change heat of a 150kg aluminium block with the tiny fart from this fan ;)

 Dieter, just that last bit, about the fan, is that some of that German Vorsprung Durch Technik terminology?

The later TFs dont have seperate engine bay sensor. i think the engine bay fan is signalled on by the radiator fan sensor. All Fs do have tis sensor of course.

Stan_B, not sure what that blower starts at the TF.
From what I heard of it's still the engine bay temperature, but measured by the ECU.
I woiuld have investigated the truth myself if I'd own a TF :broon:

Paul, nope, that's the German bean counter :silly: ;)
The *Engine Overheat* issue does a quite panic reaction at MG (F/TF) owners.

As for the trouble with boiling fuel see for search term *Vapor lock* with Mr google.

David, article looks fine now ...
