MGF - what did it cost to buy new?
Also, for my MGBGT and Spitfire I had found copies of "window stickers" that show the cost of the car and its included options and wondered if someone out there would have a picture of one of these "window stickers".

Posted 12 years 10 months ago #35089When I bought my MGB new in 1974 the price had risen to $4500.00 plus $45. for the AM radio (AM/FM at $75.00 was too rich for my blood!) Unfortunately I didn't keep the sticker (or the car!)
Back then the pound was worth anywhere between $2.50-$3.00

Posted 12 years 10 months ago #35094The list price at launch was £15,995.00 and the one tested was £17,540.00 because of the optional extras of passenger airbag (£345) Anti-lock brakes (£650) and EPAS (£550) the only other factory option was metallic paint (£230) and front foglamps (£188) but dealer fitted only. neither of these were fitted to the test car.

That sounds expensive considering the Chinese MG TF was going for the same price 15 years later!

Posted 12 years 10 months ago #35112My car came with EPAS and has pearlescent metallic paint (amaranth), which would mean it was approximately £16,775 when new.

When new here they were not a cheap car and cost a good deal more than an MX-5, yet there was still a waiting list and it paid not to be too choosy on colour. Also interesting was that Rover Australia only appointed one MG Sales outlet per state initially. These were stand alone showrooms called MG Garage. This was in spite of there being a comprehensive nation Landrover / Rangerover dealer network nationwide. This created a lot of problems for MG-F owners when it came to servicing. In the state of Queensland the MG Garage was in Southport on the Gold Coast. This was curious because the largest city in Queensland is Brisbane some 50 miles up the motorway. However one suspects that the dealership was given to the Lynton Group because they already had a large Landrover / Rangerover dealership in addition to being one of the longest standing BMW dealers in the country.
