New Hood.

So, new hood came yesterday but as it decided to rain all day I could only use it as a makeshift tiny cat house...

Managed to get it for £190 delivered from some breakers yard in Norwich, which was pretty good as I was looking around for 2nd hand glass rear panels for about that amount so there are bargains out there.

My own hood was in pretty good condition apart from a tiny crack that happened about a week after I got the car, this time last year, so that tiny crack has run and run and been joined by other cracks over the course of the year and so really needed sorting.

Wanted a blue one like my own but then beggars cant be choosers.

After:

Have got a caravan crystal dehumidifier in there at the moment to try and soak up all the damp that's got in over the past few weeks.
It has made quite a difference, not only the visibility but the interior holds its warmth better, noise and draught is cut down. Also the fact that it doesn't require unzipping to fold the roof down will cut down on a lot of faff.

Am on the hunt for some Renovo to properly clean/restore and waterproof the hood as I have no idea how long its been stood but so far its a win.

PS. I dont work for Millican Motors or want to advertise their services its just some Volvo decided to reverse into my sister, now she has a courtesy car she's ashamed to be seen dead in!

looks good Darren, did it come on the frame?? yours looks in really good nick shame you damaged it, did you consider having the plastic replaced I had Monty's done and fitted it only cos £80 or did you just fancy the glass??

make sure when you renovo you really sheet up your car, I used plastic cover sheets from asda and was well worth doing

You got an absolute bargain there, especially as a glass window from MGFMANIA is £185 for Diy. A Renovo kit is about £45 to clean and reproof the hood, but it is worthwhile doing. Autoglym also do a kit for about £25 but its not as good as the Renovo stuff.
Good idea to de-humidify otherwise you could quickly have the chronic mould that Leigh Ping has. You should get a good price for your blue hood on eBay.

I did have a look into getting the plastic replaced but thought I'd just end up splitting it again at some point so decided to splash out and get a glass screen, the hood came with the frame included so it was a case of off with the old frame and on with the new.

It already has a little mould on the inside but that shouldn't be too hard to clean off, will tackle that tomorrow.

Having a bit of a problem with the new door seals but 24 hours of the seals getting used to the position of the glass and that should sort itself.

Have heard the horror stories of getting Renovo off paintwork so will be fully sheeted up when it comes to doing it.

Looks fantastic, I have a glass screen soft top and although the rear view is less than with a plastic screen at least it is always clear :)

I have used this before and it gives fantastic results and was easy to get off my paint work too AUTOGLYM SOFT TOP CAR HOOD/ROOF CLEANER PROTECTOR KIT

I understand that it is usually neccessary to adjust the windows after fitting a new/another hood to ensure a tight fit at the top. there is a "how to" that David did some while ago on this subject. :yesnod:

The very next day after fitting the glass screen al the cars are covered in frost.

Am amazed how quickly it clears with the heated screen, the ones I've had on other cars take a while to get going and are a bit feeble but this one was hot to the touch in about 3 mins flat and was defrosting half the hood too!

For anyone who has a crack in a plastic screen and is thinking of upgrading but is put off by the cost, shop around and find that bargain, even if its not quite the same colour, its worth it.

My problem is that I keep forgetting I've got a heated rear screen and scraping the frost off.
