Great idea for a thread. We all owe a big debt of gratititude to some very talented engineers.
Quite hard work for me, i have not changed cars that often, but i have still managed to own some truly brilliant cars.

1) The TF115 with a few crucial mods, why dont they cost 10x what you can buy them for?

2) 1967 MGB owned since 1969

Also a few mods so it goes stops and handles well with a tolerable ride, it also has o/d so motorway cruising is effortless. Sounds nice as well B)

3) 1984 Vauxhall Carlton Estate with the venerable 2l cam in head engine a company car that replaced a 1980 Opel Rekord version, The Vauxhall had a 5 speed Getrag box and was lot plusher, it was a dark orange with grey velour trim. I tried to take it with me when I left but they wouldnt sell it to my new emoloyer :(

4) Audi 100 CD Avant. I was forced to make do with this this when I couldnt keep the Carlton  Metallic blue with blue velour trim + all the toys. 2.2 l 5 pot engine and close ratio 5 speed gearbox. That car could swallow anything you needed to carry, and blow away 99% of cars on the road at that time. It was pretty light on fuel as well.

5) 1995 Fiat Tempra TD, bought with my own money at auction still under warranty ex Fiat fleet. I put some KYB shocks on it and it really stuck to the road. It was brilliant driving to Scotland and arriving with 1/4 tank of fuel left, it was about 28 MPH/1000 RPM on 5th as well so it just tore up the M6. A bit of a giant killer as well

I will post pic later, .BMP not legal.
OK found one!

This was after I gave it to my Daughter, the Marea Weekend replaced it in 2001, its A 2000 Model ex SIXT Daily rental again from the auctions for a very fair price, still using it now as a load lugger that you can park at the supermarket without worrying so its a worthy car, but not a great one.

This misses out a Citroen BX and a W123 Merc , oh and a BMW 735i SE , 1965 Triumph Spitfire. Mini Cooper among others, and doesnt even mention motorcycles.
I think how i chose them was cars that went and handled well, were reliable easy to live with practical for everyday and able to go 400+ miles without giving you the slightest concern, and did not need to visit the pump very often. Based on that the BX should be in there equal 4 th or something.. The Audi would have been no 3 if it wasnt so short geared (ostensibly for load lugging but the Germans like to buzz an engine.

I've just spent the evening browsing old transparancies which haven't seen the light of day for many a year. I found a photo of the first car I ever bought. It would have been 1981 when I was 18. I had just finished a six month stint on the Youth Opportunities Programme and was offered a job. So, no more borrowing Mum's car; it was time to buy my own. This was the result.

Looking at the photo brought back many a memory of time spent in the car. Some good, some bad. At this moment in time, I've decided this is my favourite car I've owned .... well, at least until I get in the MG tomorrow

I have had so many its really hard but here goes

1. BMW 316 Baur convertible
... so loved this car but forced to sell it when I got divorced :(

2. MGF Steptronic
.... There is just something about this car I love even when she's not being nice to me ... bit like the wife really lol

3. 1.3 Mini Sidewalk
.... So So much fun to drive and did my first Lands End to John O'Groats run in this

4. Austin 2200
...... Not the most reliable car but I was only 18 and compared to my mates dinky cars it was more popular with the girls and the fact the seats folded down to make a large comfy bed had its uses :P

5. Datsun 180B SSScoupe
..... An impulse buy from a car auction for just £225 it turned out to be a great car no rust as it had been ziebarted from new. Great performance, very good on fuel and 100% reliable. It had a dogleg first gear 5speed box which I still think is the best I have ever used it seemed to always know what gear you wanted next and a gental push or pull with just 2 fingers and it went straight to it not matter if it was up or down. But alas it was killed off but some idiot van driver who very firmly inserted his van into the back of it. I was atleast glad the old girl wasn't a rust bucket as my 2 year old daughter was in the back at the time and although most the boot had collapsed the main cabin section was fine and she was unhurt.
