Does anybody know why MGR illuminated the dials on the MGF/Tf in such a crappy way?
Why aren't they lit from behind? What's the deal?:dunno:

Its the same illumination style as used in the old AR cars like Maestro, Metro and LDV vans etc that the clocks and assembly was taken from. Full of 80s retro tech aren't they

I guess it was a cost saving exercise - probably easier not to have all the layering needed on the dial faces. I don't mind the front lit dials on my F but I think the white faces of the dials helps spread the light.

Ill agree, the front lit design is just kack in comparison of cars which came out around the same time as the MGF

Even my old 89 Seat Ibiza had backlit dials, lit from one bulb which then went to the dials via a fibre optic system!!!

My point is though, if Seat in 1989 can use that kind of technology, what stopped MGR even implementing a standard back lit system??

The weird thing is if you look at the instrument pod circuit board there are two panel illumination bulbs in it.

edit - Problem solved by Plasma dials
