What's your favourite road to drive on in Britain? was created by p24hrsmith
Posted 12 years 7 months ago #46502It's 14 miles a single track road along the valley then up over the mountains.
In the next pic you may notice there is a drop to the left and a rock to the right and no vision at all over the brow ahead. Not uncommon to find bits of car hear.
The devils staircase which is about halfway along is a couple a of sharp and steep hair pin bends oddly I have no pic's of that. so I robbered one off google
Just to add to the fun you may come up against a logging truck so make sure you can reverse good.
I do have a vid somewhere but I can't find it which is a good excuse to take another drive down again soon lol.
So where do you go for fun?

Posted 12 years 7 months ago #46560The drive over Bealach na Bà was wonderful but the road that has an abiding memory for me was the one to Ardnamurchan Point (Most westerly mainland point in Britain). About 30 miles or so of single track which resemble a rollercoaster track. Totally bonkers.

For the actual driving thrill the Yorkshire Dales, Butter Tubs Pass takes a lot of beating, but treat it with the respect it deserves.

Posted 12 years 7 months ago #46583Living in Cumbria there are a fair few that spring to mind.
But when I can combine Hartside with a run beside Ullswater up and down Kirkstone Pass, alongside Windermere and then Thirlmere ending with a Honsiter pass, doubling back a little through Stair to get Whinlatter pass into the bag its all been a very good day!
Couldnt possibly choose one road as they all offer something different depending on the weather and the level of Sunday drivers.,

Posted 12 years 7 months ago #46589A fantastic weekend, firstly at the Park Gate, Kidderminster where Jan's arrival was accompanied by a strong smell of burning clutch in the Janrover, or so John told me in some other form of words which I will not repeat here !
Some excellent food, some more new friends joined us and the potato cremator ( sophisticated Jan ) came back for a second helping of our humour, we must be doing something right !
Early start Sunday, our contribution to the 80 MG anniversary celebrations would see us drive from the talking toilet in Much Wenlock to Craven Arms in a bright but bracing ( not freezing ! ), Shropshire morning, then on to Clun and Newtown via the spectacular Kerry forest all ambers and browns in the bright autumn sun.
We met the SW group at Irreclaimable ( spelling 2 out out 10 probably ) it was intended as a coffee and comfort break but some took advantage and started with the first of their three lunches !
The rest of the day is well documented but once we had said farewell to our guides we made our way back through Welshpool to the final food halt of the day at the Old Hand and Diamond, Coed way where John enjoyed another ' snack '

Posted 12 years 7 months ago #46590You were luckier than me though David. I didn't have the MG at the time I went. Not quite the same in a Fiat Punto :ohmy:David Aiketgate wrote: Rog wrote:-
