Water Temp.

Half way to work this morning, about 17 miles, the temp guage shot up to above max.
I pulled into a layby and checked everything over. No obvious coolant loss,
no steam, water level in header tank normal and oil temp. a little above 90.
Called MGF Center. Bill seems to think that I have a faulty temp. sensor and is sending a new one.
Played up a bit during the day. This evening, on my 35 mile run home, everything is normal.
Anyone experienced similar problems??

That does sound like a faulty sensor or a dodgy connection. The temp gauge is heavily damped and only an air bubble over the sensor is likely to cause anything like rapid movement.:dunno:KUON;5024 wrote: Half way to work this morning, about 17 miles, the temp guage shot up to above max.

You could always check for any air at the bleed valve on the metal pipe in the engine bay to be doubly sure.

Many thanks David. I shall fit the new sensor when it arrives and give the car a good bleeding.
So far I have had no problems during Tuesday, having driven about 120 miles.
Perhaps it's just an aberration and not an indication of further problems ahead.
