Took me a while to find a pic of the engine to confirm my suspicions, but this is a 2.6-litre OHV straight-six engine belonging to the MG WA.

This one (se link below) was up for sale in 2010 with an estimate:£48000 - £55000 price tag, bit out of my range :slapme:

According to a definitive source on engine codes the following were used:
QPHW 2561cc Wolseley 18/80 ohv engine 18HP
Q being a 2L 6 cyl, P being OHV, H being a 69mm bore and 6 cylinder unit, and W being Wolseley sourced.

This assumes PDQ is right about it being a WA, I am sure he is.

It is most certainly a WA engine :) Pic doesn't show it that well, but the whole thing is covered in MG octagones - cast in to the exhaust manifolds, oil filler cap, rocker cover bolts etc etc... Dad has one (and the rest of the car, in bits), used to walk past it all the time in the basement :) First MG engine to have a fully counterbalanced crank.

However, QPHW is not the engine code as used in the WA. MG spec was a bit higher than Wolseley.

The source I looked at had this:
QPJG 2322cc MG WA ohv engine 18HP.

But I thought that this was an error and referred to the SA and not the WA.

If the code was different then I imagine it must be QPHG?

QPJG is, as far as I recall, the WA engine code, QPHG being the SA code. Over to you.

It's really over to PQD, he identified the engine.

I am puzzled as the capacity for that code indicates a smaller capacity as used on the SA. But thanks for confirming it.

Come on, PQD, let's have the next question PDQ.
