My clock was running very slow, losing hours and hours daily. At first I thought it was my leaking battery, which I changed. That wasn't the problem though.

With a bit of googling I was able to find a remedy and, a few pictures later, we now have our own guide on this fairly common problem. Here's how to cure it.. First off, remove the central air vent.

That's the hard part out of the way. Now the small black connector going into the clock on the right needs to be removed. I found it was quite tight. A thumb nail either side of the connectors lips accompanied with a backwards push popped it off easily.

I left it off for five minutes so that the clock was fully discharged of any current.

After 5 minutes, reconnect the clock lead.

Reinsert the central vent.

Adjust the clock to the correct time using a pen point.

Now, if anybody out there googles "British owned and run MG enthusiasts forum clock fix!" Or similar.. they should end up right here at the T-Bar.

Later that same day...

nice :) my clock has been doing this forever...

guess with the engine missing and the battery disconnected for over 3 weeks now that will also have solved it?

Sure.. Here's my idea. Unplug it.. wait until it shows the correct time and then plug it back in. Would that work Ken?

Have either you or Paul (Paulsmgf) got any pics of the clocks with the problem please? They paint a thousand words you know. :)

My guess would be a capacitive circuit not discharging correctly: disconnection would allow complete discharge. If this is correct then the problem would gradually reappear.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Its only a wild stab in the dark: when I learned electronics in the 70's it was big old components soldered together on veroboard, and the height of technology was etching your own pcb's. I would guess that the clock would consist of a fairly standard chip? Maybe someone with a more modern grasp can shed further light.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..
