Guys, Sorry to keep on about this but I have finally braved the cold and rain to start sealing the water leaks on my 2000 Mk2 'F'

I have identified one as via the air box seal through the bulkhead.

I am following this remedy

http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/common_problems/water_leaks/wet_passenger_side_carpet.htm

but...

The water appears to be entering the air ducts, via the airbox, so... if I follow this result surely all I will be doing is sealing the water in the air ducts and letting it flow into the heater, which to me doesn't seem a great idea. unless there is a drain somwhere through the bottom of the car.

There are definately trickles of water inside the airbox above the foam gasket sealing?? the airbox to the bulkhead under the bonnet. There doesn't appear to be any way of restricting this flow of water from the outside vents.
On testing it I can see water flowing out of the drain hole in the airbox but they downt seem to be completely rectifying the problem.
Hope I make myself clear here,

Does anyone have any idea how this can be stoppped? or what is indeed wrong!

Older but certainly not wiser!

There is an updated air intake that you can fit( the part under the bonnet)
This stops water entering in the first place.:yesnod:

Silly Me B & G of course! Ordered, but the P & P seems a bit excessive!

Thanks again, now just got to work out how to get the box off, which seems a challenge in itelf!

These instructions have been shamelessly stolen from Herbie, who translated this from a German site.

Replacement of the air intake box

1. Remove the under bonnet panel

2. Just slightly loosen the two outer brake servo mounting screws but remove both inner screws. Slightly lift the brake servo.
Note: Make sure not to damage the brake lines !!!

3. Remove the two vertical 10mm screws with which the air intake box is attached to the bulkhead.

4. Remove the glove box

5. Cars without air-con:
Remove the 10mm retaining bolt which is attached to the air duct, remove the air duct.

or 5. For Cars with air-con:
Remove both terminals which are attached to the multi-block connectors from top of the evaporator housing. Remove the air ducts from the windscreen blower. Both 10mm air intake screws at the inner bulkhead are accessible through the two fixing screws of the evaporator without moving the unit from its resting position

6. Remove the two air intake screws from the inner bulkhead

7. Remove the air intake box (again the brake servo has to be pulled slightly forward) by slightly rolling it over / throughout the brake servo.

8. Refit the new air intake box by rolling it over the servo and put in position

Re-assemble all parts in reverse order. The air intake box should be fitted with new screws / washers.

Note the bracket inner fixing to the right of the air duct! This guy has fitted the brake servo steady bracket. Well worthwhile doing, surprising how much the servo moves without it.

This just goes to show how great this site is.. Thanks Guys.... From my research it appears that another option is to just cut the current box apart, in situ. As none of it is needed when the new one is fitted.

As an aside it would appear there are 2 possible leaks from this area,

one via the foam seal that degrades with time.

the second appears to be a problem with a steel guard actually inside the air box that is clipped in place. Some people appear to have had trouble with this rusting and looking unsightly, mine appears out of line and has bubbles in the paint so is on its way out. Without further investigation I can't tell which but this guard having moved allows water inside the duct.

Possibly a 'how to' on it's way!

I await delivery from B & G then a decent day and the time to fit the new one!
