MGF Wheel Nuts

Thank you David for point in the direction of Tech_World_Direct for MGF wheel nuts. I took the 12 best ones from the 24 I had and cleaned and buffed them on the wire brush on the grinder, they have now gone rusty so much for the stainless steel sleeves (or so i thought) I looked at MGF centre £3.50 each plus VAT and postage same at Mike Satur or £51.50 for 12 plus £4.50 postage, Moss want £12 each for OEM ones!!!!!!! as do MGOC So i have ordered a set of 16 from T_W_D for £16.50 with free postage. Result

The Mike Satur ones are not polished either!!

The solid ones are certainly a whole lot less hassle than the originals. I found that with a lot of the oem nuts, the chromed cover was loose on the nut inside. Of the 16 I replaced, I think 4 or 5 were still OK.:lol:

I destroyed five of them just getting the wheels off , they were rusted on, a couple had damaged to soft nut underneath that a hammer on socket and loads of plus gas job was needed. Jan (oops) gave me 12 that she had taken off her car and about half were not suitable for reuse, which is how i managed to make 12 o.k ones. I have fitted the McGard locks although my OEM ones were in good condition with little wear on the keyway. so many stories just wasnt worth the hassle. Thanks again for your advice. :woohoo:

After my episode with the McGard locking nut, :pinch: ( tightened by a gorilla, snapped the locking key and had to be drilled off) I've given up on them and just fitted standard nuts all round.

I've collected a large tub full of O/E nuts over the years after I was quoted £8 a nut by Daryl at motobuild when I fitted my first set of VVC alloys to my monty estate, he suggested I not buy them but "aquire" some from the local scrapy - people say he is expensive but you can't knock advice like that.

We now have 4 cars that use them and I think in all the time I've been using them I've only chucked about 3, must be the way I look after them :lol:

Last year before leaving for France I ditched the O/E locking nuts as they were on the way out, I still have the normal nuts even though I've since bought a set of second hand unsed Mcgard locking nuts.

Hi, Dave, according to a seller on ebay those nuts are not for the std alloy wheels on the car

Well the top shown ones are on my car and they are fine. Been on and off a few times changing tyres/wheels etc.

True they don't have the captive washer like the oem, but that statement doesn't make sense anyway. It states they are for an MGF. MGFs all have alloy wheels.

Glad to hear it, as I was a bit doutful on your type. It would seem he is saying there are two types of wheel nut depending on the design of the alloy wheel

In his advert he seems to be saying some mgfs don't have the conical seat, rather they have a radial seat.

It's possible I suppose, but all the ones I have seen are conical seat. A quick check will soon tell you what yours are.
It would be interesting to hear from other people - Anybody out there with radial seat nuts?

Fitment
These nuts have a 'Radius' (round shaped) seat, so are suitable for all original alloy wheels.
If you have after-market (non original) wheels check that they require Radius seat nuts. Some after-market wheels require 'Tapered' (cone shaped) seat nuts.

From what I see on the ad he is saying they may not fit after-market wheels.

However all alloy wheels ever fitted by MGRover use the same nuts, these are different to O/E spec steel wheel nuts but can be used on spare wheels, O/E spec steel wheel nuts can not be used on O/E spec alloys.

I can't see the one peice of info I was looking for in the ad, the taper should be 60'.
