Seconded - I use the same argument to justify having a saloon over a hatch as my main car, wife has a hatch for trips to the tip

Your wife has a hatchback to take bicycles to the tip? Well done! :broon:talkingcars wrote: wife has a hatch for trips to the tip
Must be a fair sized hatchback to fit bikes in.

Do we think the linked subframes front and back would effectively increase the torsional rigidity of the car?

I have never seen an MGF/TF with a bike rack on the boot but the other day I saw an oldish MX5 with a bike rack on the boot and 2 bikes on it!!
Also the car was in top down mode -my wife said -dont even think about it !!

However, I am not sure I believe much about the car stretching etc... Surely that would be an issue on a normal front engine car? Surely a tow bar, properly designed and tied the rear subframe (which would probs need strengthing bars bolting to it) would put less strain on the body than in a normal where the engine and drive train are at the front?
Personally I think the issue is nose weight rather than the car stretching. There is no strength in the back of the car to press down on....
