According to Scholar the torque curve should be dead straight

It would pull right through to 9,600.. but Id need a billet crank and they aint cheap

The box was re-built using steel caged bearings and tapered bearings on the torsion diff

If you want something build properly (fingers crossed) go to a reputable K series engine builder and not someone who will just paint the block silver with a rattle can :omg:

Another thing Ive learnt is.. when fitting a new fly wheel NEW flywheel bolts MUST be used.. Wonder whats in my mates :-?

Hellier only ever uses OME stretch head bolts.. and again these need to be new during the engine build

Sadly though none of the above comes cheap :(

Roger knows his stuff..

Personally Id only use either Dave, Roger or Jason for K series engine modding..

All three very experienced

Scholar do complete engine builds.. and head porting and polishing but not seen one of their heads

Very impressive, out of curiosity what gains in BHP do you envisage, and how much has this cost, not including a price on your time, as a cost per bhp. Dont worry though, if you dont want to divulge the costs I fully understand!!

The whole lot.. as in the first pics.. including the subframe blasting etc.. is probably around £7k..

:omg:

The break down is very very extensive so I wont go into it

As for expected power/torque.. anyones guess.. but should be around the 200Bhp mark

The engine had all new bearings/shells and every seal and gasket is new

Hellier did all of the bottom end balancing and did some machining too..

I paid labour for the engine build and gearbox as Im not competent in those fields

The engine is almost as new.. only the crank and rods are original

Yes its a hell of a lot of money to gain a little extra BHP...

But its only money :bust:

This includes buying the TF160 lump (47,000 miles) with loom and ECU for £600

I could do a list of bits in the engine.. but it will be stupid long..

I know some will be amazed at the price... but this is almost a brand new engine

This engine has been 'properly' re built

The costs soon add up

The custom anti roll bar was £150

The custom sphere hoses £25 each

The nuts and bolts on the rear subframe around £40

And thats without even touching the engine/box

The rear hubs are being custom machined to make them stronger.. the rear brakes custom (312mmx25mm vented discs with 2 pot callipers) five stud hubs.. all new ball joints and bearings

The rear tie bars are being custom made

Cost is now irrelivant lol

Ive seen a few people before quoting this '188' figure

Lotus developed the K series and made a VPHD version which apparently made 188 Bhp

Most 160 owners will likely see around 150-158 from their standard engines

Exahust and air filter/inductions would see that figure rise.. but not 188

DVA (Dave Andres) is one of the most resepceted names involved with K series engines.. his web site lists the mods needed to see 180+ Bhp

Remember DVA is talking about ACTUAL not 'guesstimate'

Rolling road sessions are a great way off seeing EXACTLY what your engine makes

'feels fast' and 'I reckon' are no match for a properly calibrated rolling road

Hi d d rolling roads aren't that good as you may see 100bhp day 1 and day 2 110bhp on the same car/engine

I totally agree..

The general is up to 10% out..

But certainly more accurate then guessing :bust:

My car will probably go to Emerald to be set up..

Their rolling road is calibrated..

Most decent rolling roads are calibrated.. but as above can be out by 10%

Thats why Ive previously suggested 1/4 mile days... No cheating them... The decent ones monitor the movement of your car.. so even setting off half a second slower on the lights doesnt affect your time

My car is with Emerald this wednesday to have the ECU set up, expecting it will be a "Beast" on the drive home :-)
