Posted 11 years 2 months ago #127753It seems to be the recommended alarm.

I'll go so far as to say that: You would have to be insane not to have one!

Posted 11 years 2 months ago #127866Recently our car split a coolant hose and emptied most of the coolant from the engine area within seconds. :pinch: The alarm meant the engine was switched off before serious damage occurred. :yesnod:
That meant a new hose and a couple of litres of coolant instead of minimum head gasket fail/ maximum cooked engine scenario. :omg:

We now have a new law that states "Never drill holes in the header tank of an already under engineered overstretched cooling system, plus trying to get a mechanical seal between a self tapper and plastic that will most likely leak under pressure anyway"
This system can only create problems not solve them.

Well yesterday we did the Thames Bridges and Tunnels run with the MGCC, brilliant run al in all 300 mile round trip, I checked my coolant at every opportunity and relied on the LoLarm, got home at 03:30 this morning and was surprised when the alarm didn't even sound on the Speed bumps near home as it usually does !
So before going to bed I thought I would just test the alarm, pushed the float down..... Nothing ! Bloody thing didn't work
So today I will investigate why as I relied on that all last night, looks like I was very lucky.
Also can't work out why I loose coolant travelling 18miles to work but don't loose any on a 300 mile round trip !!!

Alarm defo not working, took the float out wiped it down as it had a bit of gunge on it and its working fine !
I tend to know its working due to the agressive speed bumps around me, so prob dont test it as often as I should. If I had tested it prior to the run as I should I would have sorted it
Theres a lesson there somewhere
