Sports exhausts

Dear All
I'm asking about that age old conundrum, which is the best sports exhaust out there?
I'm sure the choice is a personal one, but want to stay clear of the 'boy racer' type that offers a lot of noise and droning at motorway speeds.
I just want a nice sounding exhaust that gives a good tone under acceleration but is fairly civilised at tickover and motorway speeds.
On looking around there are those made by Daytona, Scorpion and TT, but I've also heard about one called the FF made 'down south' and supplied by MG Lifestyle in Brighouse.
Any suggestions and/or personal experiences gratefully received.

Everyone's favourite is the one they have fitted to their car.

In my case it's the MGOC Super Sports (made by double S). It's pretty rare on this forum.

Sports exhausts are great with the hood down. Fit a hardtop or with the hood-up they will sound noticebly louder than the OEM.

For me the Daytona ticks all the boxes. It's quiet if you're gentle on the throttle, it doesn't drone at motorway speeds, but when you give it the beans up through the gears it has a very enjoyable British sports car sound!
When I did my research ny second choice was the Blueflame.

Mike Satur, mine sounds fab but get the 4 into 1 manifold to get best effects

As above its a personal call, I have a TT Mk3 fitted to my Trophy under normal driving it behaves, blip and gives out the sound 'we all' purchased a sports box for. Dont use motorways, dont have any in Cornwall thankfully, so do not have any 'drone' issues. Best of luck!!

There is no 'best' exhaust...

But... Do ask about after sales and warranty

DO go for a ride in a car 'wearing' the exhaust you want


I bought one of the first gen TT7's... It hung on the wonk (RHD side was 1" too long) and it only blew out of one side... I raised these issues with the seller and was later told I could buy the newer 'fixed' version for another £300 odd quid... !?!?!?

As for warranty/Guarantee... Ask other TT owners...


The Daytona's never come up for sale second hand... why? Because people hang onto them for good reason...

If you can't find what you want why not get one built... Its not as expensive as you think

I had a custom exhaust made because I wanted centre exit and the ability to control the volume of the exhaust from the drivers seat whilst driving

It was built by Roar Power in Birminigham and cost me £100 more than the piece of junk TT7 Id already bought... Plus my new exhaust is actually British stainless steel and unlike the TT7 was hand built in the UK by an English craftsman.. and comes with the usual Life Long warranty offered at all LIfe Long centres

I dont dislike the TT7... I dislike the after sales service (none) and the lack of any warranty at all.. Id also have a look at an 18 month old Daytona and compare to an 18 month old TT7... In my book Stainless shouldn't rust... :oops:

Ahhh DD it's called stainless because ........................................... well it STAINS-LESS that normal carbon steel. In certain countries it's known as Rustless Steel becuase it RUSTS-LESS that carbon steel.

There are grades that virtually don't rust at all but I don't think they are weldable. Or rather you can weld them but the wled will fail after a period so are not usable in a weldign situation. Dredging up memories of Tech College now and that was a looooooooooooooooooooooooong time back.

I have noticed that many of the S/S rear boxes do in fact rust especially on the oulet pipes and this is down to the steel they choose to use. It's probably cheaper and easier to work with than better grades.

Now as you now this issue of sxhaust for the F has been an issue that has bugged me also. I cannot afford one at the moment but the 75th will require one sooner rather than later and I want one that not only sounds right and is liveable with but also actually helps the performance and this seems to be THE prblem. many make claims but few back them up with actaully hard data from the Dyno or rolling road.

As Plezier says not all stainless steel is equal.

The tail pipes are integral. The warranty is 'lifetime'.

It's been on the car since November 2012. The photos were taken today after 8500 miles of use.

Hi Richard & others for your replies. Does the SS exhaust have a sporty tone or is it purely a straight swap for the original. Have also found a company in Walsall, MIJ Performance and will supply and fit for £300, has anyone heard of or used them?
