I left a ford escort mk1 standing around for a while once...the clutch had stuck to the flywheel...I think the car had to be towed to free it off.

I give the car a good polish, place inside 3 dehumidifiers ,remove battery,inflate tyres to max rating (approx 60psi to prevent flat spots)
Put soft top cover on,cover boot and bonnet with a cotton throw,cover with a good quality soft lined breathable cover,then cover that one with a
cheap waterproof one(can afford to change every year and keeps better one like new)
Covers tied down with elastic cord and tarpaulin clips.After 2 months uncover and empty the vast quantity of water collected from inside :omg: , run car for 10 mins ,then re cover.
As the cover totally covers the wheels,you only get light surface rust on brake discs.
I have thought of wrapping the discs/hubbs in cling film with silica gel sachets inside, then re fitting wheels to prevent rust.
Recommission car with oil and filter change.(oil is always clean as annual mileage less than 2,000 )
The car spends winter outside and comes out of hibernation as good as it was before. :woohoo:

Filling the fuel tank isn't because I am worried about rust, it's to minimize the amount of humid air in the tank, which could condense into the fuel.
The fuel stabiliser additive maintains the fuel for the 4-5 months it is sitting. Every spring, the engine starts up just as if it has only been sitting over night, not 5 months.
The rock salt as a dehumidifier is a great idea. I've used a small bag of charcoal in the past in the passenger footwell.
