I spent 3 years considered making mine into a targa top.
Sold it instead.

DIY sunroofs. Whatever happened to them? In the eighties, it was one of the commonest DIY modifications around. I put one on my Triumph Acclaim. Looked great! Leaked like a sieve after a year or two though...

Yes some car companies advised against diy fitting of sunroofs due to the car loosing it's structural strength...

A glass sunroof of the tilt and/or removable glass panel kind should be relatively doable, other types such as sliding fabric or sliding panel would be a whole lotta work, pain and suffering.
A sunroof in a removable hardtop is kinda pointless really, why have a postage stamp size hole in the roof, when you can do it properly and take the whole bloody roof off?

It looks like This mob is working on that very thing ......a targa hard top would be much better than a sunroof in a hard top.

New heated window put into hood - v. straightforward - but don’t forget to retrieve metal strip from old window section after removal - I left top half of zip attached to roof as it was fine.
The irritating hard top rattle was the spring clips that hold the soft top down but are redundant for the hard top - I had put some duct tape over each but but not well enough.
Car back to the way it is meant to be - top down if it isn’t raining (too heavily).

Just to clarify - the spring clips become redundant only if one takes the soft top off to put on a hard top - which is not necessary but protects the soft top from 5m of creases and gives a parcel shelf. That’s when they rattle.
