Yes totally agree. Spoke to him (John) last week as some bl..dy idiot had welded my near side subframe mount !!!! He has says it can be done, and all I have to do is drink tea in his reception whilst he does it. Cost very acceptable.
Again Top Man.

A subframe mount should be replaced for a new item not welded

From what I can see (Whoever!!!) was working on the subframe mount one of the bolts snapped (as they doI am told). Instead of drilling and re-tapping they just tack welded the bolt hole. Lazy bast..ds!
It looks, with some delicate angle grinding, the mount can be removed, the snapped bolt dilled out and new mount and s/s/ bolts fitted.

Looks more like bird shit than a weld!

I recently replaced a mount on my wife's F that had one of it 'ears' welded to the subframe. Once the mount was removed, I found the broken mounting bolt. When I went to centre punch the bolt, the captive nut let go; no longer welded to the inside of the body mount. The other bolt broke while trying to remove it and that nut let go when centre punching the bolt. I ended up drilling larger holds to the body-portion of the mount and welding new nuts to the body-portion of the mount and grinding the welds flat.
Here's a picture of the mount that came off the car. By the way, you do not have to replace these mounts in pairs as is stated on Rimmer's website. The superceded part is exactly the same as the original.
