Hi personally to help with the sound, the crackle, get a sports exhaust. I've got a power flow and it's sounds and responds better !!

I would certainly service the car first, and fit new spark plugs and filters, so the mapping would be done with everything as good as it gets.
K-maps will test everything out when the do the remap and will let you know if you have any valve issues or timing and airflow problems.
Make sure you have premium grade fuel in too.
Be prepared to be pleasantly surprised by the results!

Are you going for a generic map or a live mapping session?

I would definatly get a sports exhaust and a decent airfilter set up if you don't already have one.

you wont go to far wrong with a K&N or a Pipercross. But look at an enclosed system, because as the engine bay heats up you end up sucking in hot, less dense air and performance drops off. I ran Hesketh with a K&N on the inlet for quite a while and noticed the problem, so bought a cheap induction kit and used the cannister to enclose the cone filter and ran the corrugated hose down to the side vent.

I was always under the impression that the standard TF airbox was pretty good, with little, or no improvement from "upgrades"

Only improvement was to ensure airbox had the two inlet hoses which take air from "cooler" parts af the engine bay.

Also no exhaust "improvements" made any positive difference to performance, only sound (though a very nice sound at that!)

Think your right about the air filter Gorsq.
The TF filter has good enough surface area to let the engine breathe pretty good.
I was looking at filters and in particular induction filters for the mod list a few years back.
What came up on the forums was that most people saw a drop in performance when changing to cone type filters. If fitting one, you would be best to get the type that is tailored for the TF or F with a feed from the air intake.
