K map?

The TF airbox was certainly an improvement over the one on the F. I remember chatting to one of the tech guys at a re-map event about this and his comments were that there was some improvement with an enclosed cone, though not as much compared to the difference it would make on the F due to the dreadfully box and pipe routing they used on them. What he did go on to say however is that over time the difference between a cone and a panel filter increased due to clogging. The paper style ones needing to be replaced more frequently than the cone ones needing cleaning.. (There is always the option just to fit a K&N panel filter or cone in the existing airbox.) Where the TF does end worse quite definitely is when you put a cone filter directly on the inlet with no enclosure - for the reason I mentioned in first post, as the engine bay heats up the air expands and becomes less dense meaning each breath in gets less oxygen.

I was always in two minds about fitting a replacement one on ex-wifes TF, and in the end we settled for a K&N panel as her Sunstorm was in concorse condition and we tried to keep it as original as possible.

As with many performance mods, once you get past the major flaws the overall gains get progressively smaller and it becomes a little "suck it and see" (I think there might be a pun in there somewhere).

Certainly the main problem is getting enough cold air into whatever filter is used and some pipework into the air vent will help with that. I fabricated a scoop for use in dry conditions on track that collected air from under the car, but was never quite happy with it. It would not have been practical for road use however.

If you really want to get some serious air in the you could always get something like this

Shortly after getting the f I changed, in quick succession, the throttle body, 48mm for 52mm & removed the old filter box & resonator combination, fitting instead the tf twin feed version; the twin ram pipes go to each of the side vents. All the bits came from a donor car at my favourite scrappy & cost me £62-00, I also bought a new & standard filter which I would fit, assuming the donor would be shot, it wasn't, it was a brand new K&N unit.
And did it make the Earth Move? Not really, although there was a little more urgency & when experimenting with the two filters I found no difference between the standard & the K&N.
Maybe if I had put it on instruments there might have been measurable improvements, however at the end of the day I don't kick it down the road, you can't these days, not around here anyway. If say you lived next to the A49 & could get out early on a sunny Saturday morning then - - - - - - - -.

South bound again or A488 or past Snailbeach up through Pennerley to Shelve or straight on past the Bog mine & down past Nipstone Rock. Thats a good road.

I've got a TF airbox with dual inlets and the hose to the side air intake fitted to my Mk 2 F (pre MEMS 3 so Kmaps not available unfortunately). I changed the standard filter to a Pipercross one and it certainly seemed to be more responsive and run a little smoother.

The TF filter has good enough surface area to let the engine breathe pretty good.
I was looking at filters and in particular induction filters for the mod list a few years back.
What came up on the forums was that most people saw a drop in performance when changing to cone type filters. If fitting one, you would be best to get the type that is tailored for the TF or F with a feed from the air intake.

Sundance

I also agree, the original airbox with a twin feed and K&N or Pipercross panel filter
