It was a bit tricky to do, and some fettling was required if I recall.
My current TF is still going strong on its original, although the pivots are getting a bit loose now.
The motors have a tendancy to allow ingress, may be a good idea to keep a good second hand spare on the shelf...in fact I will source one the next time I visit Bitz.

The motor that rover used actually has a drainage system, but in the F and TF it's fitted in a different orientation to other cars and incredibly faces up rather than down.
I bought a new one, but before I fitted it, took it apart (quite easy) and drilled a small hole in the bottom edge of the housing to make up for the missing drainage.
From time to time I give it a squirt of WD-40, and so far - touch wood - I've had no more issues. I did wonder about getting a sheet of plastic and using a hot air gun to heat form a plastic deflection panel to fit between it and the scuttle to try to keep the worst of the rain out, but like so many other projects, it's a way down the to-do list

I got a good second hand motor, checked it internally, added a little grease, put it back together and then popped the whole thing inside a plastic bag! Tied loosely at the top to allow air circulation.
The main issue of water, in my experience, is that rain collects under the scuttle panel and drops directly onto the wiper motor! So the additional plastic bag prevents that.
I also invested in the Satur wiper mechanism at the same time.
That was around 5 years ago and I've never had an issue since. On checking the motor it's still bone dry in there so plastic bags are good for something!
Incidentally, there is a common misconception that a Freelander wiper motor can be substituted. They are much cheaper to buy even though they are virtually identical to the MG one. In fact externally they are identical.
Unfortunately the one difference is that the internal switching and the activation stalk on one is negative switching and the other is positive! I know, I wasted a full afternoon trying to figure out why the Freelander motor would work perfectly off the car and plugged into the electrics, then as soon as I bolted it up to the car body it blew the fuse.
