Can anyone help please?

When i bought my 2002 TF160 4 months ago the dealer replaced the missing "MG" boot badge with a new one held on by double sided tape. That became loose, (not helped by my wife thinking it was the boot handle!) and yesterday inevitably fell off before i had bought more tape.(i know!) We were visiting the Gaydon museum so whilst near Birmingham i popped into David Manners for a new one. However they said that they can't get them anymore they are only available via Xpart stockists. Now the supplying dealer is one such stockist so can get me a part but i noticed that there are two small holes behind where the badge goes so presumably the originals had "pins" on the back to locate them. Is this so? as if it is and i could get a replacement like that somewhere that would be an improvement on the double sided tape.

Anyone got any ideas?

Mgmania, on eBay are selling these.
They have the 2 prongs.
Looks as if this type was for the f, and the self adhesive ones for the tf.
Looks as if the f type will suit your tf.

The tf badge is 70mm in size.and is unique to the tf ...so mgf badges are incorrect. ...but be sure yours is 70mm and looking through the gap in the boot lid I can see at least 1 prong sticking out....if the original chrome badge is still in place then only the insert needs to be changed has they fade...inserts around £11...insert below which have self adhesive backing.

THe full badge can be as much has £20 upwards.
Pictured below is the full badge...part number dab000160..this I believe is what you need.

Heres a ebay link ...just click on to buy or view.
MG MGTF FRONT OR REAR OCTAGON BADGE DAB000160 FOR GRILLE OR BOOT LID

Bluestreak: Wow; that's brilliant service! Thanks very much for all the detail. I had found MGF badges on t'internet but didn't want to get one in case it was wrong. Also i didn't want to put a "temporary" one on again as it won't last. Clearly mine has lost the whole original badge at some stage and the dealer put on a cheap option to complete it for me. I'm not complaining as i got a good deal on the car but i want to make sure i get it right this time. This enables me to get it sorted much quicker than i thought. Out of interest i have now had the car 4 months and have completed 2000 miles, mainly top down days out and weekends away. My wife likes it as well which is a big bonus although we both feel at speed with the top up it gets a bit "boomy", i don't think the stainless pipe helps there. I love the power (although i've never had a high revving car engine before and i'm often surprised how the power increases after 5000 revs) and the handling, also the 40+ mpg. I've had a couple of hiccups with it since i've had it but overall i'm very pleased but i won't get too carried away here in case i incur the wrath of the HGF gods!
Thanks again for your help

Hi Norm .
As Mr Bluestreak rightly says the original badge tends to fade . I had this happen to both my MG ZR and my TF so I replaced just the center part with gel type badge inserts which are better . When you get your new badge make sure that the double sided tape is being applied to a clean surface . I found that if the suface was warm also helped the badge adhere to the boot .
I can't remember where I got the gel badge inserts from but if you need the information of the seller I will check the receipt which I will have kept . Let me know if you want the details .

Sworkscooper: thanks for the info. I have ordered off e-bay already however following bluestreak's advice and hope that when it comes it has the original pins on the back so it plugs in. It had better do as it cost £17! I'll let you know how it pans out.

Hi Norm . The pins don't actually locate into anything that will help to retain the badge to the boot as I recall . When I replaced mine I thought that the pins would push into plastic lugs as on my old Wolseley Hornet but was surprised there weren't any , just holes .

You need a degrease before aplication of the badge...I think the pins are just to aid location of the badge...stop it going on wonky or upside down...I've heard the original takes some pulling off....so preperation of the surface is what is needed here....if your after a boot badge with strong prongs then you need to buy a hornet

OK. ..quiz time now above is the wolsley hornet and below is the riley elf....whats the difference?apart from the obvious ones made by riley.below is the riley elf.

Like I said before...viewing through the gap in the boot lid. ..I could see behind the mg badge and only spotted 1 prong....this image is of a zt badge from behind which shows clearly the 1 prong set up.
