Recommended repairer & front subframe purchase
Recommended repairer & front subframe purchase was created by DougBrum
Posted 6 years 4 months ago #186735I have decided rather replace just the front wishbones, may as well replace the whole front sub frame as it be cheaper in the long run. So first question, anyone recommend where to purchase a new one at a reasonable price along with excellent customer service please?
Second question, anyone recommend a garage / repairer that is based in Merseyside / North Cheshire to carry out the work and generally bring the car back to life please? Please bear in mind, the car presently not roadworthy, not taxed or insured, so collection of car may need be required too.
I know there are many MG car members who do their own repairs etc but I am not in that category sadly. Basically may be asking too much but just want to get the car repaired and begin using it again for pleasure.
Thank you in advance for time and assistance.

Posted 6 years 4 months ago #186737I was looking at using them to do some work on my MGB, but that has been sidelined for a short while..again.
Not used them, and so this is not a "recomendation", just a suggestion, so you should use your own dilligence.

Posted 6 years 4 months ago #186751Thank you, went to FM Cars earlier and chatted to Paul, seen nice enough, with a few MG's (including 'B', 'F and Midget) in the vinicity at various stages of repair. Price to do the job seem reasonable enough but the sting in the tail though, unable to touch it until Nov/Dec this year as he has other MG cars (owners) on his list to do before then. He has added my car to the list but happy for me to find someone else to do it if I am able to get it done sooner - there lies the rub! lol.G0RSQ wrote: Nearest MG Specialist to you will probably be FM Cars in Warrington

Posted 6 years 4 months ago #186752Cheers for that. Rough Luck Racing based in Oakham, Leicester although a mobile mechanic, and checked website, not really practicable for him to travel there and back, probably over two days at least and I'm liable for the travelling costs too. Thank you again.David Aiketgate wrote: Mgfntfspares for subframe. Rough luck racing for fitting.

Posted 6 years 4 months ago #186753Thank you for the details, much appreciated. I may make a phone call but it is the location sadly that makes it unlikely and I would also need to visit the location before agreeing to carry out the repairs. I am attempting to try keep it 'local' although accept that is difficult. Thank You again.Fisher wrote: You could contact MG & Alfa Unit 10 Stockfield Mill, Chadderton. Oldham. They have done subframe work for me in the past, and I was very please.

Posted 6 years 4 months ago #186754I really do enjoy popping over for parts and seeing what they have on the ramps....either a scrapper being striped for parts or a customers car having subframes, underbelly pans fitted or cross braces put on.
All their parts are powder coated and they have a choice of colours.
I really do like their attitude too, they love to keep the MG's on the road and do their best to refurb old F's and TF's.
They are also very friendly and if you get to know them as a regular customer, they really do look after you.
Top people and now good friends!
They are close to Manchester, north Derbyshire, so not that far away.

Anyway, some good news, purchase a new battery and after checking everything, oil, water, various fluids and tyre pressures, the TF started up first time after over 12 months inactivity. Let it idle until normal temperture was acheived and then it move around the close (cul de sac), slowly and steady. going through at least 3 gears, braking gently, all seem well, so that is a good start. The brake discs look ok fortunately but they wil be rechecked when the times comes for it's eventual MOT.
Now just get the front wishbones / sub frame done.
