Fitting Float Level Sensor

Recently got my first TF (1.8, 135, 05 model) and haven't really driven it yet as it's long overdue a cambelt change, which it's getting done on Mon/Tue.

However, I'd also like to fit a float level sensor. My mechanic says I need an LE500 model tank which comes with the float level sensor, part numbers PCF000142 and sensor PCJ000040.

If I fit these, do I not also need some kind of wiring/alarm etc?

Do you have a coolant level warning light that comes on with the ignition ,and goes off after about 20 secs after start up.
It is on the top right of the cluster.
I have a 2004 135 and as mine had the light,I thought that I had the coolant alarm,but typical Rover,I only had half the system.
If you do have the warning light that comes on,you have all the wiring needed.
Around by the coolant bottle on the rear bulkhead you will have a wiring plug cable tied up.
Fit the new bottle and sensor,connect to the wiring loom and away you go.
If yours is an older model ,but registered in 2005 and does not have the loom and connected fitted then there are several types on the market.
Most of them are covered by this forum.

i have a 2003 mgtf and that never had the wiring with it,if you find that you haven't got the wiring try and find Bruce on here,he has them and they are cheap and easy to fit, i know i have one and it is purfect for the job, fit 20 mins and done. :broon:

Thanks a lot guys, I don't know about the light as I've barely driven it yet, as I had to wait quite a while for our local specialist to be able to do the cambelt - didn't want to drive it with that well overdue, regardless of our prolonged heatwave here in NI

So I'll have a look at the dash when I get her back in a day or two.

And don't get me started on MG/Rover's "economies" - I've driven a 75 for the last 8 years, and love it, but when I went to fit powerfold mirrors a few years ago, I found that they'd saved a few pence by not fitting the two little orange wires which carry the switching signal to the passenger door, and had to dismantle half the car to fit some...

The 05 model should have the wiring in place.
Check around the expansion tank area and you'll probably find the sensor plug, usually tied back into the loom.

I have an 05 model and assumed the wiring was in place.... it wasn't. Somewhere between the wiring round the tank and the instrument panel light something is missing.
Look up Bruce and ask about his easy fit low coolant alarm.
I have one and it's a nice piece of kit.

Hi . My TF is 05 and it's got the system fitted . I would assume you have it as well ! It was standard on 05 plate TF'S unless someone knows different. :nonod:

Thanks, but I don't THINK it has... as I say, I'll have a good look at it when I get it back next week

The dreaded 'Project Drive' was to blame for disastrous cost cutting measures as MG/Rover tried to find ways of saving money . I thought that by the time 05 plate cars were built and they hadn't implimented improvements to the head gasket they were fitting warning systems to all 'K' series engined cars . .

i just wish i was 15 years youger this little bugger would be half honda, have not got the strenth any longer,

you know when your past it, you put a tool down not a foot away and can you hell rember where you put it. because i just could not find it, until i was looking for something else i lost and found the tool i had been looking for for 2 days.lol
