MGTF Wheel Bearing Query
Hi folks,
just wondered if anyone might cast some light on the following issue I have with my MGTF.
My rear NS hub has a lot of up and down movement and a small amount of side to side play, cant feel anything in the bushes but the hub and the brake disk assembly is moving in sympathy with the up and down movement.
The opinion is that it is a wheel bearing problem ( but the ususal sound is not present when the whole rear wheel is spun)
Could it possible be play in the hub carrier and not the bearing?
Any comments would be gratefully received
thanks
Mike

Could be. A worn bearing can damage the hub so that even a new bearing won't fix the problem.

Your symptoms sound exactly as mine was. That was the wheel bearing. New bearing fitted and problem solved. It could be that the bearing has worn so much that it has damaged the hub, but i would have thought you would have noticed a deterioration in the handling before it got to that point. thanks you for your reply-the fault did not appear on the MOT in July last , so possibly a new bearing will fix the issue.
