Brake system fluid capacity
i'm got to bleed my brakes as i removed the sub-frame to clean / protect it, so am going to take the opportunity to replace the system brake fluid using my trusty Eezibleed ( assuming i have a cap that fits )
Does anyone know how much fluid it will take to bleed the whole system and replace the fluid? if i put 500ml through the system, will this have replaced it all?

Sorry, can't see anything in the workshop manual about brake fluid capacity. All the other fluids but not brake system

Hi Gavin . I think that sounds to be a bit on the skinny side . I bought a 1 ltr bottle to do mine last year . The reservoir takes quite a bit and assuming that you have ABS it will take more to fully flush out the system .

Hi,
I have just had a look at the Rimmers “how to?” They recommend using 1 Ltr, the system is about a 1 ltr capacity.
From this demo, they use a pressurised unit, and take 250ml from each corner, flushing through the old fluid.
Cheers
David

Thanks all - a litre it is then. I'll probably take a bit more from the rear cylinders than the fronts, to allow for the longer lines.

I would get at least half as much again, as the brakes can take a couple or three attempts when bleeding them, especially if you have four pots.

There is a single line front to back.
With ABS the correct sequence is
Off side rear
Near side rear
Near side front
Off side front
The Gunson kit doesn't have the correct cap, I made one from a scrap master cylinder.

Flushed the brakes through today, using my Eezibleed. Unfortunately the caps supplied with it only fit reservoirs with screwed caps. They sell a universal cap but it costs almost twice as much as the Eezibleed! So I've made my own.
I run it off my compressor, and find 10psi is plenty.
