used headlight? worth keeping?
My F failed it's MoT on headlight pattern a few months back. There is a decent breaker nearby and he had a good used set of F headlight that I got for £40, the car sailed through MoT with these fitted. Which leaves me with the old ones, taking up space under my work bench.
As I understand it, it's the reflector that causes issues with these headlights and that the reflectors are no longer available but can be re-reflected (if that is even a word?!). So is it worth keeping the whole assemblies, or worth stripping them & getting the reflector refurbed so I'm ready next time I fail the MoT for headlight pattern?

The original meatalising was done on the cheap by MG-Rover (damned bean counters again) they left out a process that stabilised the coating.
They shouldn't need doing again and they work fine, with Osram Nightbreakers fitted.
One wonders why a company that makes something thats ment to last like headlights chose not to do it properly when a company the makes a product as disposable as coffin hardware (it either gets burned or buried) can afford to do it properly! :nonod:
No wonder I despise bean counters, the bastards make my professinal life a misery with their parsimonious bullshit.
If they really wanted to save a company money they'd resign!

Posted 6 years 2 weeks ago #188438This coating problem was mainly a mk1 issue, and a pair of mk2 headlamps should stay bright.
