Holy moses...why does it cost £500 to put a belt on a kv6...that is some coin..seen the full timing kit including pump for £180
..I know when I got quotes for the tf..I was told allsorts..like they are hard to work on etc hence the quote .
The service items for the KV6 are considerably more to buy....between £220 and £300 depends where you buy from not seen any for as low as £180 though, then there is the charge for fitting....its not as quick a job as the K series 4 cylinder. I know at MG Rover mobile mechanics, only Dave Allkins can do them out of all of their mobile mechanics - or that is what I heard when I was last over that way. Even Jon Norris does not do them, although he did mention that he was considering sussing them out...You are more than welcome to do mine for me, Mark....mates rates yeah?

I was just watching some youtube vids on it...doing it the technical way using all the tools and a guy doing it to a zs with the kv6 fitted...he just replaced belts and 2 pulleys I can see why some shy from it..I wouldn't shy from it if it was my own car in my garage environment. .but I would have to decline..doing on site repairs..

I do most jobs on my cars, but engine tinkering is something I wont mess with, timing belts, cams, head off jobs etc are something I may be able to do, and I certainly have the kit to do it, but if it goes tits up because I missed something, for the sake of a couple of hundred quid, I think I would prefer a mechanic to do that, and have it warrantied....
Don't mind messing fuel systems and carbs, and engine ancillary stuff though.

Yeh I know what you mean.but I'm the other way...don't like handing money out and like tinkering..but not being familiar with a kv6..if doing one myself..I would throw myself into videos and manuals first...plus I guess it boils down to time which gets shorter
by the day...hate the thought of not knowing cambelt condition has it plays on the mind..some years back I took my laguna to work to change the cambelt...shocked when the casing was removed to see the belt holding on for grim death.the kv6 belts and pulleys on ebay about £99...and full kits les than £180

Its a dilemma as I only paid 500 quid for the car and the idea was to run it as cheap as possible, but keeping it safe and roadworthy.
If I get the belts done for 500 squidleys then it doubles the cost of the car. I am thinking see how it goes through the MOT next year, It will need brake pipes doing before then, but everything else is sound, then I may think of getting the belts done.
Brake pipe replacement is something I have not done before and I don't have a flaring tool, but it seems easy enough to do and the kits are not too expensive, so may have a crack at this one...just need to know the best stuff to use.
