MLS gasket - slightly confused
I'm just about to refit my refurbished head, using a MLS gasket set from Rimmers. The head gasket appears to be in two parts - am I correct in assuming the plain black shim is part of the MLS and not a head saver shim? If so I assume this part goes on top, i.e. Under the head.

Hi . I have done a few gasket changes using the MLS and have not had this head shim in any I have done . Posibly because none of the heads I have removed have had to be skimmed .

Checked with Rimmers this morning and they confirmed that this separate ‘shim’ is part of the MLS gasket, and so on it goes. I assume a very thin smear of Wellseal on this is OK, or should I rely on the black coating providing any necessary sealing? It would help if the MLS gasket came with instructions, the manual I assume relates to the original Payen gaskets.

Don't add Wellseal, the shim's coating is made to bond to the head using the engine's heat.

That's correct . No sealant on either gasket , shim or head and block .

That’s what I suspected, thanks for the confirmation.
