Hi Fellow MG-ers,
2005 MG TF135

Recently the bottom bolt on my Front RH shock snapped - dropping the car suddenly and making my ride home from work very slow....speed bumps are a real pain!
Anyway - I read forum posts to find put how to get the upper suspension arm off so I could drill out the bolt.....but sadly, I could not find any advice on doing this job. I removed the front bumper to investigate but decided to stop and find a garage while I can still move it (slowly).

My question is about the shocks - should I replace them with standard or upgrade them a little? Any thoughts on this and other modifications. Not looking to lower or speed up the car - but have noted the range of options for shocks, bushes etc.

Best wishes,
Steve

The springs you can retain, its just the shock absorbers you need to replace if you want to reduce the stiffness of the ride. I fitted standard springs to the comfort ride shock absorbers and I have to admit, I think the feel of the suspension is bang on. I think my shock absorbers were My05 spec or possibly LE500 ones, which could be the same unit.
I fitted standard springs, but opted for new powder coated ones, but if there is nothing wrong with your old ones they will be ok.

Thanks for the info and pic. I am tempted by the powder-coated springs now:)

05 tfs normally have the softer ride....I kept my 04tf standard hard has nails with a jolt up the spine when you hit the potholes...reminds you what robbing gits our government are.

You can always get your existing springs powder coated

:welcome: Steve.

As I've said on previous occasions the best suspension mod I done so far is to upgrade the original Monroe Dampers to the latest VHS Bilstein version.

Hi Steve,
your car will have the soft ride coil overs as standard as my TF 2005 does.
For reference.
the fronts are RND001400 with green coded springs

the rears are

RPD000720 with yellow coded springs

just bear in mind that the MK2 TF 2005 does have some additional changes at the front (ARB ) to accommodate the softer spring movement.before deciding to make a change
