Seal failure on gearbox - best fix??
I spotted this while fitting the induction hose to the air vent. It's the mastic seal between the gearbox and the clutch housing.
Bugger!
Is there enough wriggle room to split the gearbox off the clutch housing in-situ to run a new bead around the mating surfaces? I've only had the gearbox off when engine has been out previously and I would really like to avoid an subframe drop as I've not got access to a two post lift now.
Failing that, thoughts on just squirting some mastic into the gap and hoping for the best until I need to do the clutch??

Yes, it's not obvious in the pictures as I had just used my steam cleaner . Not a huge amount, but I need to check the level in gearbox tomorrow to see how much has gone.

Russell Walsh changed my clutch plate in situ, he just removed the engine support stanchion. That gave enough space to do the job, so yes you'll have enough space to split them without removing that stanchion.
Whether you'll need triple articulated wrists to apply sealant, I don't know.

yup, I'm not at all convinced I wouldnt end up with more leaks than i started with.
I think I'm going to squirt some red sealant in and then push the mastic back into the tgap and see how that looks. Otherwise it's yet another subframe drop :bang:
