Hi All

Never had this before, only started a week ago. On trying to start my TF all dash lights come on, but engine does not turn over, just get a beeping sound. Turn off ignition, press unlock fob ( car was not originally clocked) then engine will start.

Is this normal or am I heading for a problem?

Sounds like imobiliser issue.

Though I am sure imobiliser is a "passive" device, have you tried changing battery in the fob?

Does it do this with spare fob.

If you do not have a spare fob.....get one!

Hi. Do you have two key fobs and if so does it do the same with the other one ? This sounds very similar to my TF's fob problem that I could only resolve by sending both fobs and the BCU to Technozen for Paul Brown to sort out . It was as though one fob couldn't release the Imobiliser but would unlock the car.

Robert

Are you saying that you have unlocked the car with the fob, started and driven the car, switched off but not locked the car?

And then when you return to the car and try to start it you can't until you clear the immobiliser with the remote?

If so that is correct.

James

Yes James that is correct. Have unlocked car with FOB, driven, stopped but not locked car (with key or FOB). Returning to car trying to start, all lights on, beeping sound. Clear (press unlock) with FOB dash lights to normal then the car starts.

Additional. BCU was checked and relays replaced last year by Technozen. Both GFOBs battery replaced approx 3 months ago.

So that is correct and I have nothing to worry about! Thanks James

My car (135 TF) was supplied with two keys/fobs and both worked fine.

But one fob was very worn, so I bought a replacement fob last year to replace it and now have the same problem with this new one, but not all the time.

My other (original) fob will start the car every time with no issues, but if I use the new fob it doesn't always get detected by the immobiliser and I get the same dash lights/beeping but a quick press of the unlock button clears it and then it will start.

But it does occasionally work (probably 1 in 5 times). The internal workings were just changed over from the old worn fob, so the only difference is the case, and I have tried a new battery and it made no difference. Bit of a mystery.

It's just the immobiliser. I think sometimes the fob gets de-synched. Possibly a new fob battery needed? It happens to me, especially if the main battery has been disconnected.

I get the same thing, AnthonyM. My car TF came with just one fob. I bought a new Pektron fob at Brown & Gammons which they paired for me. Within a few months it became apparent that sometimes I can only completely unlock the car, alarm, and immobiliser with the original key! This does seem to be when the vehicle battery is a bit low, though; normally it is fine.

My car seems to have several endearing quirks like this (ref my current head-scratcher with the engine overrun) :-)

It sounds like the transponder module, which is located around the ignition lock, is not detecting the fob and is not automatically unlocking the ignition lock. Could be due to a weak battery or a problem with the transponder module.

I had it a while back..unlocked car with fob ...drive around no problem and then sound blurts from dash and it is imobile...get out try fob locks doors jump in everything normal for a while and it did it again car non starter with sound from dash....changed fob battery for a brand new one from halfords...not the corner shop or pound land. (Well not exactly in that order did try the cheapo 1st)...everything ok after that......when I first came across the problem I too replaced the fob with a new battery.....in theory it was new...it was wrapped..brand was panasonic so should be OK. ..but I had bought it from pound land has a spare...so off I popped to halfords...this time the battery was around a fiver.....went home and compared the 2 batteries on a multimeter. ...never again would I buy cheapo pound land rubbish...the halfords batteries were banging out more volts...launched the brand new pound land batteries ...nothing worse than a red herring

I have been using brand new Duracell batteries in my fobs. Replacing the battery in the fob has never made a difference when I have had problems. But using the original fob ALWAYS works. I only have problems with the 'new' fob, and then it seems to be when the car battery is less than optimal. This generally occurs over the winter months when the car doesn't get used very often. I've been keeping a note this summer and haven't had any problems at all, so I think it is a low vehicle battery causing the problem for me. That doesn't explain the difference between the 2 fobs though...
