camshaft position
Good morning hope the world finds you well and I hope you can help me.
After refitting the cylinder head I need to fit a new timing belt but how do I know the camshafts are in the right place ? I think I am right in saying that the split pins on the cams are located in the INT and the EXT stamped on the pulleys, and the EXHAUST and INLET lined up together on there appropriate sides using the locking tool but what about the cam positions ? thanks for looking Andy

Look for "cam belt timing" in the How Tos.

Hello again everybody, thanks for your help,I have refitted the crank as the how to posts suggested split pin in the ex.and in slots, fitted timing belt timed it up turned the crank a couple of times, and spun it on the starter a couple of times all ok.
connected the electronics and fuel etc but not the water, tried her and she fired up straight away and runs well but there is a ticking noise from the engine
stuck lifter, bent valve? could I have put the cam shafts in the wrong position even with the pins in the correct slots thanks for looking Andy

It could just be a 'lazy' tappet.

It's probably tappet noise. Could be a lazy tappet as David suggests. I have a noisy tappet at idle on my wife's F, that I will be investigating this winter.
