Hi, This is probably a very daft question. i have looked in the forums and can't seem to find the answer (it is probably there and i'm being a numpty)
I have an 2003 TF 160 which is going be with me until my hips pack up...
A friend of mine has an F with a (relatively recently) rebuilt VVC engine however he has just found out it has rotted out underneath so is dismantling it. He has said i can have the engine/gearbox etc.. on a pallet in case i ever need it.
All i really would like to know is if the TF160 engine is the same as the VVC off the MGF?
Cheers!
David

Afaik, The 160 vvc engine is an updated
version of the vvc engine in the F. Mechanically the same, but the ecu, coilpacks etc are mems3rather than mems2j version. The mems3 160was first introduced in the F Trophy car.

It really depends on the version of the other chaps car.
If it is an early F there are significant differences.
If you can get us the age of the donor car we can help further.

Gents.
Thank you so much for your help. I really do appreciate it. I will find out the age of the donor car as I think it is quite an old one
From what you have said so far, if I want to store it "just in case" I would probably be needing the ECU and a few other bits as well and a straight swap out wouldn't really be a simple thing.

If you really wanted to you could swap all the ancillaries and sensors from the TF to the F engine and the speedo drive from the gearbox so you could do the swap but you'd loose about 10% power.
