My LHD mgf 2001 still has water ingress.
I hoped i had stooped all leaks. And i did, but for 1...
Testing leads to leakage when water is coming down from the rubber aside of the front window.
The water gets down near the front bonnet hinges and then some of it comes in somewhere. It mus be above the gromets of the electrical cabled and above the plate where the clutch cilinder is mounted on. As i sealed that all.
The water runs down just in front of the cables coming from the back of the car and where they are going vertical to the fuse box. The cable itself stays dry.
Does anybody know where this leakage can be?
Fotos: Mind its a LHD car. The paper that i put gets wet.

Hi Had exactly the same problem on my TF (left-hand drive). At the time I was told that if you look by the hindge on the inner side of the wing there is a hole. This is supposed to be a drain hole which takes the water away by some kind of magic (cannot remember the name of the body section involved). But the factory seal between the body joints may have cracked and this allows the water into the cabin. I think if you have a good look up under the dash you can see the sealant.
To solve the problem I sprayed instant seal fluid which is use on gutters, down the hole and then sealed it with a some gutter seal (the bitumen stuff with a silver foil backing).
This seems to have solved the problem. But I must admit I only use the car on dry days now!
Still worth a try.
Sorry I could not be more specific but I did this some 3 years ago.
Best of luck
Robert

Thanks fisher for your quick reply.
Which hinge you mean, bonnet hinge or door hinge?
Did you have to remove parts to get to it?
(Side wing or maybe the plastic black piece under the front window)

I had the same problem, found leak to be between welded panels under the passenger side dash/bulkhead as sealant had dried out.
The gap was filled using sikaflex squeezed into gaps, which could be seen coming out of the corresponding seam under the bonnet.
Seemed to do the trick, now got a leak from somewhere else.:bang:

Hi I am referring to the bonnet hinge. You do not have to remove anything. Standing infront of the car looking towards the windscreen. In the hindge area look down into the body of the car, inner wing and you shold see a hole in the side of the bodywork. This is the area I am refering to.
Regards and hope this helps.

Think i found it some 1 cm hole in the sealing visible, allthough very hard to see behind the fuse panel, in the very top corner under the dash.
First have to remove the fusebox to even get a picture...it will follow.

There it
To access. Loosened the clutch pedal and got it lifted by a rope. So my head cloud be under! And lifted the relais part of the electrics panel, to be able just to see it... 😬
Put sealant in as best as i could. Hopefully its good now.

Hi The Driving Dutchman
Sorry I could not be of more help. This problem was 3 years ago and I followed the advice on a forum, but cannot find the correspondance. By the way it is not the large hole in your photo, it was another! and I have covered all that area with mastic so cannot point you in the correct area.
The good new is that the interior split factory sealant is the place, up under the fuse box. I sealed fom top (this elusive hole) and underneath as you have.
Hope it solve the problem.
